“A young creative from Australia, with a soft spot for
stationary and a habit of chasing the setting sun.”
About the Author
Hello there, thanks for stopping by!
My name is Kathleen and I am a young creative specialising in writing, design and photographic arts. I started taking photos around age 10, but have been dabbling in creative works for as long as I can remember. In 2016 I completed a degree in Media and Communications, which allowed me to develop my career, starting in publishing where I developed a love of coordination in supporting various production teams to collaborate. In more recent years, I’ve worked in the creative agency space in production coordination and traffic management for Post Production and Digital Development teams. In my spare time I enjoy sharing my stories, photographic imagery and creative mediums which now find a home here.
This site is essentially a labour of love and home to a variety of my creative endeavours, in both the creative arts and other professional fields. Originally the site was founded as a way for me to share stories and pictures from my adventures during six months of travel throughout England and Europe in early 2016. The site continues to be a space for these stories and more since my return home to Australia. Rather than having hard drives full of images, Travel on Sunday allows me to continue to explore my love of a variety of creative pursuits.
So make yourself a tea or coffee, settle in and enjoy a story or two!

FAQ:
Where are you based?
I currently call beautiful Sydney Australia home and am always looking for new places to explore and experience.
When was the site founded?
I founded Travel on Sunday at the end of 2015 as I was preparing for my student exchange, which began in late January 2016. (An experience I’d highly recommend to all university students by the way! I’m always happy to discuss this topic for those about to embark on their own student exchange.)
Where did the name Travel on Sunday originate?
When I was doing my initial research for the site design and brand, I worked through lots of different ideas and words as they came to mind. I wanted something that wasn’t specifically attached to one idea, person or product. I’ve always been fond of the notion of setting aside Sundays as a day to explore new places and creative visions. A perfect twenty four hours for rest and relaxation at the end of one week, right before the beginning of another. After deciding on the name a happy coincidence occurred. I realised that I was both leaving for my student exchange on one Sunday and returning in the early hours of another – six months later. It was then that I knew the name was perfect and it has stuck ever since!
What products and tools do you use?
I always work with whatever I have on hand and am a firm believer that you can take good pictures regardless of the quality of your products. That being said I use a Canon 5D Mark III, a 50mm lens and an 85mm lens (both canon). If you have the capacity and ability to do this, investing in quality products will always be worthwhile. In post processing I use a variety of Adobe CC products, including Photoshop, Lightroom and Illustrator. All of my instagram images are taken and processed on an iPhone and occasionally I dabble with a go pro and an instax film camera. It’s also fundamental to learn all your basic photo 101, rule of thirds, manual mode and so on. A firm knowledge of lighting and composition goes a long way, not to mention consistent practice – always try to be learning something new!
Are you looking to collaborate or undertake project work?
I’m very interested in hearing from anyone who would like to work together. You can contact me over here if you feel we’d resonate with each other, I’d love to hear from you! Feel free to get in contact through social media as well, those links can be found either at the top or bottom of the page.
What inspires you?
This list is endless from music, books to people around me, art and fashion are big sources too. I’m a very visual person so I tend to gravitate towards those mediums. Films are a big source of inspiration for me, particularly any by Terrence Malick (Tree of Life was an absolute vision). I adore pouring over beautiful cinematography and lighting. Much of my instagram feed features sunset photos, it’s my favourite time of day for light and I’m so lucky to live in Australia with the sunsets we often experience. Basically wherever I find inspiration I’ll embrace it with open arms!
